Agreed though distortion is not an issue with most pics and software available. Also, for the vast majority of scenes and uses....the added IQ of the 14-24 or Zeiss is simply not required or noticed. In some specific user needs, the 16-35 may indeed be better served by a different lens...but to say " The lens is simply not up to the D800 for landscape or architecture at 16mm. " overstates the diff, IMO, regards most uses.

Well, the OP's shot with the crops he included are pretty demonstrative of the known shortcomings of this lens. If there are better alternatives available at 16mm, and there are, he woud be well-advised to sell the lens. He is definitely unhappy with it.

The vast majority of users simply to not require the potential of a Zeiss and may not be able to use it effectively regardless. I would be a prime example

The vast majority of D800 users are extremely fussy and agonize over every parameter to an almost pathological degree, especially in this forum. And I've seen your latest stuff, you're being far too modest :^)
