rMBP and RAM
Aug 12, 2012

It is time for a laptop upgrade and I'm consider the MacBook Pro with retina display. It comes in 8 GB and 16 GB variants for the RAM. Being that I'm coming from a windows environment and this is my first Apple computer, I'm not sure ow much RAM I really need. Beyond photo editing in Lightroom and possible movie editing in iMovie and perhaps final cut pro later if I get into it, I really will only use the laptop for basic content consumption and web browsing. Seems like 8 GB should be fine but considering the RAM is not replaceable, it is important to make the right choice from the start of course.

As an aside, I'm currently running Lightroom on my quad core windows 7 pc and upgraded the ram from 4gb to 8 gb and didnt even notice a difference in Lightroom performance. I'm just thinking 8 GB on the laptop would be plenty, but I don't know...
