DPR: increase your challenge site priority
Aug 12, 2012

Every one knows that the DPR site has of course also a commercial background.

What I do not understand: why has DPR so little interest in their challenge site?

Looking three years back it seems to me that the amount of high quality entries were much higher, not only in terms of the amount of pics, but also in terms of percentage of good pics per challenge. Also more voters per entry could be seen.

Just take for example these challenges:

http://www.dpreview.com/challenges/Challenge.aspx?ID=1701

IMO at least one reason of the loss of interest and the reluctance of serious photographers, voters and hosts is the current challenge organisation and the voting system. The Tamron challenge was not a bad idea to increase interest and traffic on the challenge site, but was a disaster because of the voting system.

Improving the organisation/voting system of challenges is not about satisfying a few frustrated DPR challenge fans. It is about making “the best photo challenges online” (DPR wording!).

When ever DPR asked the community how to improve the challenge system, they’ve got a lot of suggestions. We learned from DPR that the challenges have not a very high priority and nothing happens.

So we have to increase the priority of the challenge site. DPR, tell us how we can support.

Come on DPR, let’s create a win-win situation.

1) We help you to improve the challenge system. If you need help how to increase the traffic/ amount of clicks on your (challenge) site, just start another thread.
2) You increase your challenge site priority.

Making/improving the best and well known challenge online will bring back fun for much more participants, voters, hosts and visitors and therefore will increase site traffic and improve your return.
