D300 vs D7000 for sports

"I use the AF-On button and don't like the position of the D7K's AE-L/AF-L button for this purpose. Subjective and individual preference."

I've used my D7000 now through a baseball season, versus three years with the D300. I find little difference in tracking, the D7000 better in low light shutter speed options, but as the above quote indicates, decidedly inferierior in ergonomics especially when useing the AE/AL button for autofocus. In fact, I've developed a sore thumb from the cramping necessary to shoot this way with the D7000.
