Aug 11, 2012

This round closes when I log on 1st Sept UK morning time.

Thanks to Michael for running the previous challenge, a wide variety of images.

By contrast, this round will have a more consistent appearance, though there could be just as much variety in the subjects. Hopefully, full colour monochrome should be self-explanatory. But do read these pointers to help you deliver a winning shot:

1. This is an observation round, not manipulation. That means the image has to be something seen, not created in pp - no tinting or selective colour. I don't mean that images have to be straight from the camera, pp as much as you like, but images that stink of manipulated colour will get a eurovision nil-pwant (zero).

2. Subtlety and simplicity will appeal to me.

3. Man-made objects are a cheap ticket. While not ruled out, a closeup of a man-made object simply painted in one colour, such as a car, is unlikely to win (nature could help you on that one).

4. Floral subjects are also unlikely to get high marks unless there's something very clever happening.

5. I'll be generous in my interpretation of monochrome (see examples)

6. Extra points are earned by posting an image I've not seen before - in other words, I encourage you to shoot specifically for the forum or find an image which you've not exhausted to the point of boredom!

Without saying too much, the foreground/background relationships are LIKELY to grab my attention. No guarantees!

IMPORTANT: this is a photography competition - its not simply a matter of seeing a great subject, its delivering a great photograph of a great subject!

Rules

! VERY IMPORTANT ! please reply to the FIRST (ORIGINAL) post if you are submitting an entry and please RENAME THE SUBJECT TO INDICATE THE TITLE OF YOUR PHOTO ENTRY.

The host gives you a topic of interest and you get going. you will submit your best work. You post ONE image (if you post more than one image, the first will be your entry in the challenge).

The host chooses a winner after closing. The decision of the judge (the host) is final.

The judge is not eligible. The winner then chooses the next topic, runs the challenge, judges the winner and passes on the baton to that person. If the winner fails to post a new challenge within 72 hours of being declared the winner then the runner-up should post the new challenge within a further 24 hours.

Feel free to comment on other contestant’s images. if you want someone to leave you a piece of constructive criticism, put (CC) next to the title of your image.

Please embed your image in the thread. Try to resize your photos prior to posting so they’re sized appropriately for viewing without having to scroll (800 to 1000 pixels on the longest side works best.)

Title the photo.

Use any camera, format or whatever.

Some examples:

And a few of man-made ones to show how its not the man-made colouring that counts - its what nature brings to the party.
