Don't kid ourselves that only newbies or soccer moms buy entry DSLR's.

Never said that.
I said that is the biggest market for the camera.
I stand by that.

I don't care if a pro uses one or 100 pros use 10 each.... the biggest market for this level of camera is not... as I stated numerous times in this thread... the type of person that hangs out on gear-centric forums.
Unless they posted a question once that asked "what camera should I get?"

Then you have the wannabe pro soccer mom who again just goes out lashes out on some meaty gear and starts off part time in photography. I suppose this is where that awful phrase prosumer comes from..meaningless if there ever was one.

You're confusing things....
Prosumer doesn't describe the user... prosumer describes the category.

Pro level build and features, at a price that is between "pro" and "consumer" level.
Currently, D300s and soon the D400 and probably D600.

Regardless 24mp is at odds with the target market, so you have to question where Nikon are going to run with this one.

Again, I think the target market is the very people that are fooled into thinking higher MP means better camera. Those that are new to digital SLR cameras.
