So you want re-assurance that you are not crazy for buying an obsolete camera to replace an older obsolete camera and for buying the most convenient for the price superzoom lens?

Well, the d90 has many faithful users who have not upgraded - it all depends what you want to do with your images. If, like most, you will view them on your PC or TV screen or print for an album, then you dont need better.

As far as the lens goes, the Tamron is great for smaller images but will always look slightly soft at full screen pixel peeping. I've just had a look at a bunch of Tamron images on Flickr and while they all look fine when seen small, they soften up at full size.

I use the older 18 - 250mm version together with DxO software and the sharpening difference the dedicated DxO module makes to the Tamron image is magical.

So I think you should trial DxO as it will do do the same magic on your new Tamron lens.
