Well - the sensor have a fixed sensitivity and what we now call ISO is simply gain (in the bad old film days each film had its own specific sensitivity given by DIN, ASA and later on ISO). So what do auto ISO do when the sensor have fixed sensitivity (basically a fixed ISO value) - simply change the gain.

To me auto ISO is nonsense because altering ISO (or gain) also alters the texture of the image (graininess, color and contrast), and I tend to be very senitive about having series with similar texure. So auto ISO would simply ruin my images!

But - that is me and my needs - others do of course see things from another angle...
