Desolation Wilderness - Six Pictures
Aug 10, 2012

I just got back from a trip to California and Nevada. It was there that I was able to hike to Desolation Wilderness, just west of Lake Tahoe. I brought with me lots of water, some food and three DSLR cameras and lenses...two Canon and my Olympus E-500 with the 14-42mm lens. Unfortunately all the years being with you all at this forum, I was unable to share these with you previously due to the recession and some fires they had in California. So these are the first I've ever gotten with my Olympus camera of this area...hope you like them.

Photo No. 1 - At the beginning of the hike up the mountain, there were beautiful views of Lake Tahoe like this.

Photo No. 2 - Here's another view of Lake Tahoe, with Emerald Bay.

Photo No. 3 - Below is Eagle Lake in or near Desolation Wilderness, as I hiked further west.

Photo No. 4 - This was my destination...Middle Velma Lakes...about 5 miles one way northwest of the trailhead.

Photo No. 5 - Here's another picture of Middle Velma Lakes.

Photo No. 6 - This is an example of the Desolation Wilderness terrain. The hiking path was very hard to follow. It took an effort to follow horse and people footprints in the sandy soil. When crossing over large boulders, people lined the path with small rocks so it made it easier to recognize.
