is a 300mm manually focused mirror lens really the way forward? I'm kind of confused about the release of this kind of product.

Well here's the thing

I want a compact, cheap, lightweight, good quality, very long focal length lens. I don't mind slow aperture.

What are my options? Olympus 100-300mm? 900$?

I've looked far and wide. All long lenses are giant, super expensive, Super heavy, or all those things together.

So what are the options out there? Mirror lenses aren't a bad idea if they could get adequate sharpness.

Take this Tokina for instance. If it was sufficient IQ wise wouldn't it be great? I very small inexpensive lens.

I feel like mirror lenses are an opportunity being passed on.
