RX100 In Camera HDR
Aug 9, 2012

Was testing out the in camera 6EV HDR setting and found it blows out highlights and loses detail in the shadows in cases where it should not. I would expect that the camera is taking 3 shots at EV -3,0,+3 and then tone mapping them. I know when I took pics of the same scene at -3 it protected against blown highlights and +3 retained shadow detail.

I will do more controlled tests and post the results. I will compare in camera 6EV to post processing using bracketted shots (manually at the same EVs). I understand the results will be much better doing it in post but was a bit more hopeful that the in-camera HDR would deliver.
