the only reason why I am not even tempted to buy from Amazon or any shop for that matter, despite a guaranteed return policy is knowing that the probability of receiving a returned camera from some other buyer (AT THIS POINT IN TIME) is in my opinion quite high. I don't want to have to deal with repairs already when the camera is supposedly new and tracking my credit card statement for reversal of funds is a pain. Moreover, my credit account is in my native currency and there' re always conversion losses. I have otherwise no problem with getting a returned product if the reason was that customer changed his or her mind, my minimum requirement is that the product is working fully.

At this rate of so many people being affected and repairs are so futile, I am sitting it out being in no hurry as it is. I really feel for those who are so frustrated with repeated repair failures.

Absolutly right. Everybody wants a brand new camera with 0 counts.

But they might want to examine all of their additional expectations. Has anyone in this thread ever bought a car without doing a test drive? And when you started that test drive, did the odometer show "000000"?

Let's not forget that you can complete the AF test in less than 5 minutes without taking a single picture. And you don't have to make any demands. If both parties agree to the test, everyone's happy. If either party is uncomfortable with the pre-test, it doesn't happen and you vote with your dollars somewhere else. Nobody is being forced into anything and everyone has an opportunity to act like an adult.
