Good. Once all the snapshooters are satisfied with their smartphones maybe photography can be left to professionals and those who have a serious interest while camera companies can return to manufacturing a few high quality models.

And prices will go up. Hate to break it to you, but the lower-level consumer models help subsidize the lower-volume "few high quality models". So, yes, you'll get to enjoy your photo equipment snobbery and elitism, but you'll also pay a much higher premium for it compared to what you're currently paying! Then, the higher prices will drive even more people away from getting into photography, making photography an even more elitist market. If you think that camera companies can really survive on "a few high quality models", selling to a smaller population who "have a serious interest", then you're being extremely naive.

Contrary to your elitist beliefs, for photography to be a healthy, prolific, and vibrant industry and art form, it needs to be democratized and accessible to all levels of shooters, with cameras at a wide variety of price points, not just "a few high quality [and pricey] models". Making photography something just reserved for a "serious" few is bad for photography.
