About D800' AF issue, some info I got...

As I mentioned in the earlier post, my D800 had horrendous errors from the leftmost AF sensor. With the D800E that I have now, the left side sensors produce smaller errors. If all my shots were for (uncropped) web-sized images, this would not be a cause for concern. But sometimes I like to make large prints. That's one of the reasons I chose this camera.

By coincidence, I have some measurements and images which show the differences between the sensors in my D800E, as measured by the AF Fine Tune scale. The captions in this gallery explain the method.

The difference between the center and leftmost sensor is 21 points. Note that this camera has already had two services at El Segundo. It appears that they only did a "gross" adjustment to the AF system, which just rebalances the errors around the zero position of the Fine Tune scale.
