G12/G1X experience

I am considering getting a G1X and other than having a play with one in the shop, have never used one for a length of time. If I borrowed a friend's G12 for a day or so would it give me a rough idea as to what to expect in regards to ergonomics and useability etc? I'm would not be judging image quality (the G1X seems fine) etc; just autofocus reliabilty and speed etc.
