Shooting water skiiers from the boat. Questions
Aug 8, 2012

This weekend I'll be headed up to a cottage for some R&R, some of which will involve water skiing.

I've been told that I'll be responsible for photos. I have some questions on setup and lens choice.

Currently shooting a D40. Obviously not the best for this, but will have to do.

My only long lenses are a Sigma 70-300 f4-5.6, and an old MF Nikon 80-200 f4.

Which of these will give me better results? I'm thinking the Nikon, but only because the AF on the Sigma hunts a lot and I think I'd end up shooting it MF anyways. so at least with the Nikon I would have more light available to use.

I'll probably end up bringing both and using both, but I'd just like to hear some various thoughts/opinions on shooting techniques for this. Hopefully the weather will be nice and sunny so I won't have to be shooting at ISO3200 all the time, but I'm thinking that might end up being the case regardless of weather conditions.

Nikon D40
