Moving raid-1 to new mobo

I have two drives configured for raid-1 on a system that just died. The raid was set up via the onboard controller on the Asus P5W mobo. If it turns out I need a new mobo with a different controller, will it be able to read what's written on the drives?

My guess is that with raid-1, each drive can also be read individually. I may need to rebuild the raid, but I wouldn't lose data. Am I right?
