Nippon Kogaku 85mm f/2, circa 1950
Aug 8, 2012

A few weeks ago I stopped by a terrific shop in Seattle called "Glazers Camera" and picked up a nice Leica 135mm f/4.5 Hektor at a very good price for my GXR. Two weeks later I was again visiting Glazers and in the Leica showcase I saw a strange looking and very heavy (570 gram) chrome LTM lens in excellent condition. I took some test shots with the GXR and liked the images and the price was right.

So, I am ashamed to say, I have bought yet another lens for the GXR m-mount. It's a Nippon Kogaku 8.5cm f/2 Nikkor P.C. lens which was made in "Occupied Japan" at around 1950. After the purchase I did some research and discovered that it is a somewhat historically significant lens. I turns out that in 1950 the Nippon Kogaku company was mosty unknown outside of Japan. It was this type of lens which gave this firm an excellent world-wide reputation which stands even today, of course now we call this company "Nikon".

Anyhow here is a couple of shots taken with this 85mm wide open at f/2. I think it's a pretty good lens considering it is 62 years old.
