Extended Warranties

My new 5D Mark III will arrive in two days. I've never bought a camera extended warranty but the salesman at Abe's of Maine tried to talk me into one and I declined.

But in thinking about it, the last time I sent in a lens to Canon to be adjusted it was over $300 and so a 5-year warranty on the camera (that I'm hoping will last me a long time) might we worth it, or at least a little peace of mind.

(I'm a semi-pro or pro, whatever you wish to call it. I'm retired and have earned money for this camera and a good group of lenses solely by selling my serves.)

I know, extended warranties are usually a bad deal. But I live in a place where there's no local Canon dealer who can fix things and if there's a problem it will probably cost me an arm and a leg and sometimes it's just nice, while have have the money and opportunity, to consider buying one.

Do any of you have any experience with any particular warranty is being better than others. I believe you can buy the warranty separate, even from another retailer than whom you bought the camera from, right?

I felt like the warranty from Abe's was just a little "too good" (give me a new camera anytime in the next 5 yrs if I had a problem).

I should note that I purchased the camera with an American Express Credit Card, so I believe that extends the 1-yr. warranty to 2-yrs.

Thanks,

John
