Why the simplistic neck strap loops on Canons?

Not that it's all that crucial, but I can't help but notice that Nikon cameras are fitted with much nicer, more robust loops for their neck straps. For Canons, it's just the flat metal tabs with the slot in them.

Is it just me, or does it seem like Canon didn't put much thought into the design of these? Or did they have a particular reason for designing them this way?
