Best travel camera

Your probably all tired with this sort of question, and I realise that there have been numerous threads on this type of topic. I'd nevertheless be interested in your opinion on the best travel camera.

I'd like to exclude SLR's on grounds of portability, and am basically looking for the most practical camera for travel photography.
If money was no object, what camera would you take on a prolonged foreign trip?
