Wild elephants with 45mm?
Aug 5, 2012

Doable but perhaps not a good idea!

Kao Yai is a area of 2000 square acres slightly northeast of central Thailand that has been designated as a National Park and is home to an abundance of wildlife include deer, asian elephants and, more recently discovered, asian tigers.

I'd been shooting nature/landscapes for most of the day with the PL 25mm F/1.4 and later switched to the PL 45mm F/2.8 for some variety.

Driving back to base there was a holdup and I got out to investigate and discovered a small herd of elephants had brought things to a standstill.

The one on the right was taking a particular interest in me

The likely reason being the presence of a youngster in the herd

The mother and her backup moved between me and the baby. With hindsight I think the intense stare from the backup was a warning to leave, and not simply admiring the OM-D.

Warning ignored, she decided to charge. Blurring is probably due her charging and me getting the hell out there rather quickly!
