There is no doubt, Windows 7 and Mac OS are the best options for Image/video- editing, and if that's your background, you should understand it. But if you don't, think of it as a lens-options. Different lenses are designed and fine-tuned for different jobs. You can't dismiss a good prime by pointing to advantages of a good zoom-lens.

You can't dismiss all advantages of Widows 7 (and most probably Windows 8 too) by pointing to liability of Linux on severs. This reliability is required for mission-critical systems in banking/trade-databases, but has nothing to add to a Image-editing system.

Well, speaking of operating systems.. what does Windows 7 have over Linux regarding video/photo editing? I mean on operating system level. I think more efficient memory management, task scheduler and option for realtime kernel would have a positive impact.
