My 18-300 gives me excellent results from 50-200 and still very good results at 300mm. This shows a center crop at 300mm, F8, handheld at 1/320th second.

For assignments of course I'll take the 2.8 zooms or primes, but for a travel lens these results are excellent imho. The 18-28 part is weaker (soft corners wide open especially) but IQ in the 50-200 range better then the 18-200 and the 30mm is better then I expected.
