RX100 in nightclub concert setting - hard rock
Aug 4, 2012

I'm a new RX100 owner who's key interest was photography in a concert setting, particularly smaller clubs and venues. Camera policies tend to be more relaxed for P&S cameras and I've found my previous camera, Canon G10, lacking in both video and low light performance.

Here's a few pictures I took on my first outing with the RX100. I was impressed versus what I could do with the G10. I shot mostly with 1600 or 3200 ISO, across numerous settings. One weakness I found was shooting RAW slows the camera down significantly even with a fast 95 MB/s SD card.

I also found the zoom difficult to use when it's controlled by the lens ring. It takes several turns for full zoom and this is difficult to do smoothly.

A couple Youtube videos I posted:

For sound, I'm shooting with the wind noise reduction on. Note the sound is off course dependent on the quality of the sound mixing during the show. I think it's not as good as the G10, but time will tell.

Anyone else really interested in this camera for this specific application?
