1/1.7" better than 1/2.3"?

because a 1/1.7" sensor is a lot larger than a 1/2.3" sensor.

For some marketing purpose, the camera makers decided to name sensors by the size vaccum tube they could fit into, and then used the inverse of that number. So the larger the bottom number.... the smaller the sensor.
