Is the 24-70 that bad WO VR on the D800?

Currently I have the D800, 28-300, 70-200 VR2, 50 1.8G I had the 24-120 F4 and it was a great lens but the build quality and sharpness was only a bit better then the 28-300 and the 28-300 is more versatile. Im tempted to sell it(28-300) and get the 24-70 but it bothers me there is no VR. It looks like it may be awhile before Nikon releases the VR version. My local dealer told me to get the Tameron but i will pass.

Thoughts from D800 Nikon 24-70 owners?

I am a bit spoiled with the 70-200 VR 2 but need to cover the lower end.
