Skagit Eagle Festival

After talking with my cousin in Seattle, I am considering the January eagle festival along the Skagit River as an alternative to Haines, Alaska in November (would be a LOT cheaper for me).

Can anyone speak from experience about this festival and the quality/quantity of photo opportunities for eagles? I know that there should be excellent opportunities for other birds (swans, etc) in nearby areas, but I am mainly interested in eagles.

Also, the festival's literature describes plans and activities only for weekends - has anyone been there midweek? It sounds like I could expect the area to be significantly less crowded midweek, but maybe with fewer viewing amenities, which would be OK with me.

Any real world experience with this festival would be greatly appreciated.
