Sure you CAN take photos but slow AF remains

Everything is relative.

Apparently owners of this camera choose to conclude that a level f AF performance with TIMED RESULTS that are 2x to 4x slower than current state of the art, is fine, and doesn't qualify as "dead slow". Each to his own.

They also choose to decide that timed results from the best review sites, are less valid than their own conclusions. Again, each to his own. Much more likely is the fact that these owners live with the limitations of their camera, as they obviously have no other choice.

I choose to say this is unacceptably slow in 2012.

Can you takes pictures with it? Sure. Such slow AF times have been the norm for most Canon compacts, either nowadays or 5 or 6 years ago. But a lot of situations don't require fast AF.

But denying NUMBERS, and calling ME the guy in denial? Hmmm.

By the way: the Sony RX100 has a large sensor also but it's AF lock times are 2x to 3x faster. Looks like Canon need to either optimize their AF algorithms, or put more processing power in their cameras. Or both.
