How to recreate G3 sharpening in LR4?

I have NOT been applying sharpening during export. I've only used the sliders in the develop module and left the output sharpening unchecked. That may be my problem. Thank you very much for your detailed response. I haven't had time to get back to my photos this week, but I look forward to applying all the tips from this thread.
