You probably won't go wrong with any of the current 'premium' compacts.

In the end you - as the buyer - will have to decide which pluses or minuses are important.

2 features of the Fuji X10 which I really really love are:

  • mechanical zoom - coming from a DSLR, this way of zooming feels right, and I love that the on/off switch is built-in the zoom. The result is I do not 'think' about turning on the camera - it is just part of the framing.

  • the EXR modes in Fuji can be very useful. Especially the high dynamic range, 6mp, DR400 mode - the spread of EV this mode can capture in JPEG is spectacular. I no longer have to apply negative exposure gradients in Lightroom like I was used to do (for Canon RAWs)

I wrote about the features and feeling of the Fuji X10 in a short review - http://andreinicoara.com/my-fuji-x10-review-perfect-travel-camera/

I think with this kind of cameras it is a good idea to visit a local camera shop and play a bit with them.
