50mm lens dilemma and my solution

I need a fast 50mm lens for portriat and low light shooting with my T2i.

I've been comparing the Canon 1.4 and Sigma 1.4 for the past two weeks, reading all sorts of reviews and forum threads.

Now, I'm on a very limited budget. I currently have $110 saved for this lens and it could take me the rest of the year (or longer) before I'd have the funds for either lens.

This morning it occurred to me that I could buy the nifty-fifty now and enjoy it for the next 6 months rather than waiting to get the $$ for a more expensive model. I know it has limitations: cheap plastic; pentagonal bokah; and AF difficulty in low light. But in the end it still seemed better to have a fast fifty in-hand now rather than waiting 6 months for a more desirable lens.

This makes sense to me but I'm curious what others think.
