Not only is it unnecessary and wasteful for "everyone to go to college" it is also wasteful when kids go to college and select fields of study for which there is little job demand.

They eventually graduate and find themselves with $100,000 debts due to college loans, and discover they cannot find jobs. Then they blame everyone but themselves, and decide to occupy some public park while banging a drum in protest.

This situation is caused by the confluence of guidance counselors who aren't doing their jobs properly, parents who encourage their children to waste time studying for jobs that don't exist, and the cultural myth that "everyone should go to college."

Thanks to this, we now have French History majors working at cash registers at Walmart.... while my heating and air-conditioning repairman gets $90 per hour, with twice as much on weekends.
