Accidental K-5 time lapse of storm makes local news....
Jul 31, 2012

On reports of some intense storms heading my way, I set up my K-5 in the window to capture lightning, so a series of 1" exposures in shutter priority mode. So the initial shots are blown out. And I got no lightning at all! What a disappointment! But I post processed them anyway and got this:

It got picked up by local TV, some weather web sites.... pretty nice for a "ruined" series. There was some sever flicker from lightning behind the camera, which I could not quite null out with my software.

We never get hard frontal lines like this, perhaps its more common out in the midwest, but the last time I remember anything like this was about 1995. And certainly nothing quite as apocalyptic looking.

Here is the same shot with a GoPro Hero 960 which I have set for "one button time lapse" The above video was shot out the 2nd floor window.
