Questions about RAW file processing
Jul 31, 2012

I've been shooting in RAW+JPG. When I make edits (mostly minor stuff like tweaking the brightness and contrast) using Olympus Viewer 2 (the RAW editor that comes with the OM-D), and do a "save as JPG", the resulting JPG file is 10% - 20% smaller than the original out-of-the-camera JPG file. Some edits might by their nature reduce information, but how much shrinkage should one expect?

Also: in Olympus Viewer 2, what's the difference between "brightness" (under "brightness and contrast") and "lightness" (under "hue and saturation")?

Thanks.
