It is just more weight and inefficient since there is loss in each power hand off. I just made certain to buy a charger that works from a standard 12V DC source. Most of my charging is while the panels are on top of a tent, etc. not while hiking all day, but that should work as well. My charging times were certainly best case as I have only used it in the desert southwestern US and Hawaii. A friend just used it on a boat in the Florida keys for a week and it served well there.
