You seem pretty happy with the 17-55. So I'd keep right on using it for now.

Since the 17-55 covers the FX sensor pretty well at 24mm, one of the things you gain with the 24-70 is the 56-70mm range.

So keep on using the 17-55 for now; you'll know when it's time to get the 24-70.

Plus, if Nikon continues to make great DSLR's with a DX sensor, the 17-55 shouldn't decrease too much more in value in the near future.

I blew the dust off of my 17-55 awhile back when my D3 was in for repair and was reminded what a nice lens it is, even plopped onto a relatively old D200:

Nikon D200 ,Nikkor 17-55mm f/2.8G ED-IF AF-S DX
1/250s f/11.0 at 26.0mm iso800

The 17-55, like the 24-70 is one of those lenses that has the "pop"\microcontrast\etc. that is almost "Zeiss-like" (Comment meant to slightly annoy Zeiss bashers )

Best Regards,
