It appears that some d800 cameras were loaded with bad calibration data during manufacture. It doesn't affect all cameras. Thanks to the internet, we know about every single bad camera, but there are also a huge number of people with zero problems.

If you buy a camera with a problem, send it back, or send it to Nikon for re-calibration. They've rolled out the correct repair protocols to most service centers by now.

This is misinformation, as Nikon has made no public announcement regarding a fix or the "rolling out" any protocols to any service centers. What you are writing is nothing more than internet speculation and rumors based on what some people said who had their cameras repaired.

Unfortunately, there are quite a few people reporting that their cameras have NOT been repaired after being in the shop 3-4 times, which absolutely discredits any possibility that there is some sort of unified repair protocol to fix this issue.
