The memory card connectors are much more robust than the mini USB connection that you need to use to transfer from the camera. I have seen many mini USB ports damaged, but have yet to see a SDHC connector damaged, they are too large and are at the bottom of a guide that always ensures that the connectors are correctly aligned - unlike the mini USB which aligns poorly and is easily damaged, especially when the lead is connected and sticking out from the side of the camera.

But as you say, your call, all I know is that I would rather risk damaging a cheap SDHC card than and expensive camera
