Attention Tamron 24-70 VC owners

Question for you...I just received mine today and the first thing I tried out was the vibration control. Mine doesn't seem to be working right. When I half-press the shutter I hear the VC turn on, I see a slight shift in the image, then 1/2 second later I see a huge shift in the image. This happens every time I engage the VC. I'm accustomed to VR/IS systems from Nikon/Canon and the slight shift they produce but I've never seen an image shift this consistent and this large. That's one issue.

The real issue though is that the VC on my copy doesn't appear to actually reduce vibration. At 70mm on my crop body I can get sharp shots at 1/80 with VC off. On that same body/target the image is 100% blurry with VC enabled. I'm thinking my copy might be a dud.

Can other 24-70 VC owners please tell me how your copy behaves relative to what I've described above?
