Until, three months later RX200 comes along and totally demolishes the Nikon. When 2 months down the line, the LX8 with the same size but an oversized 1"sensor comes along with f1.4-2.0 with hybrid AF. All people instantly get rid of the RX200, salesmen throw it in the garbage bin and one day later no one even remembers the RX200! Sure..

No: Nikon won't kill anything, Panasonic won't, Sony won't. But Sony won the first battle with an excellent move over all other P&S cams. Even if the LX7 could compete, the reality is that on paper (but in reality also I think) the RX100 is a revolution and has set a new standard for P&S cams. Kuddo's to Sony. Panasonic once had really innovative cams with LX2 and LX3. But now it is Sony I think.

Exactly what I think Jorginho.
The first battle was won by panasonic LX3.
Panasonic did set a new standard .
After it came canon s95 , Samsung EX1, etc.
Now Sony set a new benchmark.

I do not believe it is possible to built a 200 mm camera with a sony rx100 sized sensor .
