So you think they accidentally just put a 3:2 ratio sensor in their G5 mock for the photoshoot rather than a standard 4:3 ratio?

One can't see anything serious in the pictures you have shown. Also, if it was a true multi-aspect sensor (in the sense of the GH2), then why would they stop themselves at the 3:2 format and not go all the way to the 10:9 format ? I've computed the differences between the GH2 multiaspect sensor and the G3 sensor (which has the same amount of pixels than the announced G5) and here is what I found out :

  • In 3:2 format, you gain 3.03% more pixels in the length and width and 5.97% more pixels if you consider the area : IMO that gain is marginal.

  • In 16:9 format, things get more interesting, the GH2 gains 7.4% more pixels in each dimension, and 14.3% if you consider the total area.

Still, these gains remains moderate.

As for the pictures you have linked, if the two pictures weren't shown at exactly the same angle, you'd be easily fooled. And again : why going to 3:2, but not to 16:9 if the camera comes with the GH2 sensor ? It could have the same technology as the GH2, but still be a simple mft sensor, where the different aspect ratio are obtained by cropping.
