As per the specs the sensor size is 13.2 mm x 8.8mm.

Why was Canon advertising S90/S100/S95 as 1/1.7 inch?
Why was Nikon advertising V1/J1 as as 1"?
Why was Fuji advertising X10 as 2/3"?

In fact, why every camera released in the past 15 years had these 1/2.3", 1/.16", 1/2.5" etc figures?

It's really weird how so many people are showing up and repeating this same nonsensical question. Maybe they see it somewhere on the web (Ken Rockwell?) and then post it here?

This is the same system that every camera ever made has been using. Why are you asking this question now?

The sensor is 2.8 times bigger than the sensor in S100. That's all that matters.
