Proof that you DON'T need expensive lenses with the d800

Just a snapshot of my g/f taken using the cheap, plastic DX 35/1.8 at f2.0

That's a £130 lens, and at f2.0 it is still very sharp at the pixel level. Combined with the d800 it is still producing more detail than ANY lens could on a d700. At f2.8 it would have a little bit more sharpness and contrast too. Saying that you NEED the best lenses with the d800 is a total myth. You just need to be smart about which lenses you use, and how. But this 35/1.8 is an excellent little performer. I was thinking about the 1.4G but I'm surprised how little vignetting there is when shot wide open. Vignetting gets worse after f4.0, but I wouldn't buy a 1.4 lens to shoot at f4.0!
