The DOF scale to me is very much a guide for me. When I shoot with the Fuji lens I will always try to fix the scale of the subject in my mind to denote the distance I need to shoot so the scale is to me a secondary help. That said it is better to shoot this way so one when use adapted glass, especially the Nikon G lens, one don't have the scale to help anyways. The old lens do have a scale too and that adds another point to old lens design. I would say being conservative is better than no scale at all.

As for the hybrid viewfinder, it not its size doesn't change with the lens.only when you need to zoom in optically to compose a picture. Otherwise the frame box will tell you the estimate amount of stuff you will take in that frame.
