Canon may have made two smallish lenses but when push comes to shove they won't be able to compete with the smaller lenses for m43 simply because they have adopted a slightly larger but more importantly a 3:2 aspect ratio sensor rather than 4:3. They will need the larger glass to prevent soft corners and vignetting just like NEX.

I think 4:3 is a more natural ratio, considering what the 2 eyes can see reasonably clearly. And you are of course correct in that 4:3 means less soft corners and vignetting, but also 4:3 means more pixels for the same size lens opening than 3:2, i.e. maximising the IQ. Another reason why M43 got all the best dimensions and compromises.
