D800e as a walk around camera?

Would the d800e be suited for a general walk around camera?, i'll be using the 24-70mm vr lens.

I have ordered the d800e and i'll be using it for landscapes and general family shots porttraits and a bit of sport

but thinking the d800 might be better suited for me. After doing some googleing about it i get the impression that this camera might be a little difficult get get a sharp image unless its on a tripod?
Are there any d800e owners who can help me on this issue
