D800 and Nikon Telezooms

Am looking for 70-200/300 lens.

70-200 f2.8 VRII has quality but is costly and heavy, and only goes to 200 how much does TC degrade quality?

70-300 VR is cheaper but quality reports vary.

I shoot at f11/f16 for landscapes on a tripod so dont need f2.8 or VR, but do want sharp optics.

Any relevant experience would be greatly appreciated.
