Help sought to do close-up photography with Canon 60D

Hello All,

I have a Canon 60D and Canon 15-85mm lens. I want to know what you suggest to enable me replicate with the 60D what I did with my Canon G12; namely, to set it at widest focal length and engage the G12's macro mode.

I use a tripod to photograph flowers and plants arranged on my kitchen table under natural light, and often want to move closer (say, 1 to 1.5 feet from subject) to isolate a single blossom. I did it with the G12, how do I do it with the 60D? Do I need a macro lens, or should I be doing this with the 15-85mm lens?

Thanks for helping me.
