MILC and Wildlife Photography
Jul 25, 2012

I currently use a Canon 7D and 100-400mm for wildlife photography. I've been considering a 500mm f/4. I love the image quality I'm getting, but the weight is a real drawback and the cost of the 500mm is very high. I am now wondering whether it makes sense to invest any further in such large, heavy equipment when the future may be in MILCs. Canon's new EOS-M has fueled my interest in this, since it has a sensor that is similar to my 7D, suggesting that future versions might have similar functionality and IQ. Am I right to assume that, at least theoretically, an equivalent MILC system would be substantially lighter and more compact than what I have now? If so, is it likely that anyone would produce an equivalent MILC system (including long lenses) in the near future?
Thanks,
